Wolf-Heidegger's Atlas of Human Anatomy

What the critics had to say about the 4th edition (1990)

'It is lavishly illustrated with half-tone drawings (many of them beautifully coloured)... This wealth of marvellous illustrations results in the atlas providing a spelendidly comprehensive coverage of human anatomy in twelve section. The first section, entitled "Systemic Anatomy" provides a very useful introduction to the subject which not only sets the scene but also gives a clear indication of what human anatomy is about and what, therefore, has to be encompassed by the learner...
A fine edition indeed it is and one of which the late author would have been proud.'

R.M. Santer, Journal of Anatomy

'An atlas of anatomy that has reached a fourth edition is bound to be a good book. This is the case with Wolf-Heidegger's Atlas, which has become a classic over the last 30 years... The addition of a chapter on systemic anatomy at the beginning of this atlas clearly indicates the authors' intention to provide students with a functional approach to anatomy, while the reassignement of the subsequent chapters to particular regions stresses the importance of topographic anatomy.
In all, there are 570 pages of high-quality illustrations, reference to which is facilitated by an extremely detailed analytic index.
Professors Frick, Kummer and Putz are to be congratulated on this very fine book, which every anatomist will certainly wish to possess and to bring to the attention of students, teachers and radiologists.'

JP Chevrel, Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy

'As compared to other modern atlases of human anatomy in which most illustrations are coloured photographs of selected dissections with or without accompanying diagrams, the 4th edition of the already classical Wolf-Heidegger's atlas retains the tradition of anatomical drawings of good quality in which the unavoidable lack of realism is advantageously compensated by a better didactic potential. ...
In conclusion, the revised 4th edition of Wolf-Heidegger's atlas of human anatomy remains among the best classical productions in this field and is undoubtedly an accessible and useful tool for graduate and postgraduate medical students as well as to most internists.'

J. Milaire, M. Rooze, S. Louryan, Acta Clinica Belgica

'A new edition of an established atlas of anatomy. High-class illustrations, many in colour. A genuine rival to its many competitors.'

'An anatomical atlas containing line drawings, coloured and black and white diagrams, photographs and some radiographs and other images. Virtually all are of superb quality, well-labelled and pleasing to the eye. I recommend it to all radiologists.'

John Palmer, Australasian Radiology

'Although aimed at the medical student primarily, this book is an excellent reference textbook for nuclear medicine physicians who increasingly need anatomical diagrams to aid interpretation of SPET and PET studies.'

European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, unsigned
